BITTEN BY A SNAKE.
Edith Johnson, aged 14 years, daughter of
Mr. T. Johnson, of near Lucindale, was
bitten on the right ankle by a brown snake
on Sunday about midday. She was playing
with some other children in the garden
at the residence of her grandfather,
Mr. H. Langberg, of Conmurra (says the
"Naracoorte Herald"), and while under
an orange tree, around which there was
some long grass, she trod on a brown
snake 2 ft. 9 in. long. She at once ran
into the house. A ligature was tied
tightly around the leg and her aunt cut
round the bitten place and sucked the
wound. Her grandfather drove the girl to
Naracoote, and Dr. Caw put the patient
under the necessary treatment. On Monday
she fell unwell and could hardly see,
but by Tuesday she was right again and
felt all right on Wednesday. The snake
was not captured.
